This major
social media platform wants to take action against the biggest controversy,
"fake news". Facebook has been taking its fight against this agenda
for years, but now it's more seriously. This major platform is tired of the
misinformation and malicious accounts spreading this disinformation. Facebook
has updated its policies to keep the misinformation off of their platform.
Studies are beginning to show that the steps they’re taking are actually
effective, which is really good news. Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook says
even though they are using effective tactics to stop this terrible misfortune,
there’s still plenty of work that needs to be done. They have learned about the
glitches in Facebook that allows these fake pages to easily create and spread
fake news. These pages were able to do this via a feature that was previously
shut down 2 years ago “editable link previews”. These link previews are the pop
ups when you post a link onto Facebook, they usually contain a large thumbnail.
Prior to the mid 2017, if someone were to post a link onto Facebook someone was
able to edit and link, headline, and description to whatever they wanted before
posting the link publicity to the site. But, June of 2017, Facebook made a
major change as part of its fight against fake news and misinformation. By them
removing this feature they have eliminated a channel that has been abused to
post fake news. Still, even though this feature was disabled, a user found a weird
glitch that still enables Facebook Pages to be edited, which was supposed to be
shut down over a year ago. Even if Facebook continues to try to change their features
and policies, users still try to find loopholes as to how to edit posts on
their platform.
